VISORguide.com HowTo section

Since the beginning of computer science, software programmers were used to introducing parts of programs hidden into their finished work. Access to these parts of software which often contains name of realisation team or short animated sequences, are not documented and require specific handling. These portions of code are named Easter Eggs.

Palm and Visor OS follow this rule and some Easter Eggs are hidden inside. As the Visor family use Palm OS, some of them are common, whereas some others are specific to Visor. So we maintain this list of Easter Eggs and the manner of activating them. Enjoy now !

Easter Egg Visor/Palm: The easter egg (itself !)

This first Easter Egg is extremely well named since it shows an easter egg in a corner of the screen. To get it, launch the Prefs/Général application and draw a small circle at the right bottom of the screen (in the opposite direction of the needles of a watch). A small easter egg decorated must then appear in the zone where you made the circle. To make it disappear, just tap on it with your stylus. If not, it will stay even if you shutdown the PDA, there is no problem keeping it !

Last, if you plan to try the following easter egg : keep it on your screen !

Compliant with Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism (color egg !) and Palm

Easter Egg Visor/Palm: The taxi

A Taxi crosses the screen !

it appears only if the easter egg is shown (see before). To get it, open a new memo (for instance), push the down button of Visor and simultaneously draw a line with your stylus beginning in the middle of the graffiti area, finishing it at the extreme left of the screen area (see picture on the left). You should see a funny taxi crossing the screen of the machine. It appears at a random position.

Compliant with Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism (modern color taxi !) and Palm

Easter Egg Visor : Flip, the HandSpring logo, making the wheel

This easter Egg presents flip (Handspring logo) crossing the screen and making the wheel while names of members of the development team are displayed. To get it, go to the usual launch screen, keep the down button pressed and tap with your stylus on the hour shown in the top menu. Many names are shown while Flip is making a wheel (in color on Visor Prism). Among names, you will see some famous one such as Donna Dubinsky or Jeffrey Hawkins, already at the origin of the Palm, then at the origin of Visor. And last (and maybe least 8-) if you push on the hard down button it reveals a date on the left top of the screen: Aug 31 1999 in the case of an US Visor deluxe and Aug 24 2000 13:06:01 in the case of a US Visor Prism.

Compliant with Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism.

Easter Egg Visor Deluxe /Palm: Team at the origin of OS Palm

It looks like this easter egg can only be see on a Visor or Palm running OS 3.1 like Visor deluxe or solo for instance. It was impossible to get it on a Prism.

To start this easter egg, from the default launcher, go to menu and select Info. It launches the memory application (which is also able to display the exact OS version of your PDA). Just tap on the top of the screen (see left picture) when pushing the down hard button.

The development team of OS 3.1 is presented in an animated view : names are formed by letters arriving from many areas of the screen. It may be a surprise to see the fillowing names : J Hawkins, D. Dubinsky and ED Colligan, on a Palm ! The reasoon is simple : they where founders of Palm Computing (called successively US Robotics, 3Com and Palm Computing) before leaving to found Handspring.

Compliant with Visor Deluxe and Palm with OS 3.1

Easter Egg Visor/palm: The worm in "Preferences"

To start this easter egg, go to the default launcher, launch the Preferences application. Draw the # letter in the graffiti area. To do that in Graffiti, you need to draw a dot followed by letter H. A worm crawling across the screen appears : Cool !. It will continue until you leave the Pref app.

Compliant with Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism, Palm.

Easter Egg Visor/palm: The version of Graffiti

To start this easter egg, launch the Memo application then create a new memo. Switch to ponctuation mode (tap once in the graffiti area) then write the word " palm " in graffiti. A sentence appears in your memo:

" Graffiti 1.0, Copyright Palm Computing 1995. "

Compliant with Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism, Palm.

Easter Egg Visor PRISM: Details of Prism battery level

This is not really an easter egg but rather a hidden OS function. It is not available on Visor deluxe or Platinum as they are not powered by a lithium-ion battery. You'll find it on a Prism and surely on a Edge.

In the default launcher while keeping the up hard button of the Visor pressed, put your stylus on the battery icon and keep it pressed also. A small window appears showing electrical values :

- Voltage: value in miliVolts.
- No Load: value also expressed in mV. What is it exactly ? Maybe the highest value taken by battery. If anyone has the information, send it to VISORguide.com
- Load: load in mW
- Percent : directly linked to voltage but easier to figure, the percent of load of your battery.
