Handspring Modem

Modem

This module developped and sold by Handspring was the first modem for Visor. It is an analog telephone line modem. Transmission rate is 33.6 Kbs. It uses a set of two AAA batteries. No communication software is included on the module.

Thinmodem™

Modem

Another analog modem for Visor. Directly competing with the one of Handspring it features a reduced size since it fits exactly into the Springboard expansion slot. It uses power from Visor itself . According to the manufacturer, it should not consume too much (< 50 mA). Speed reached is 33 Kbs and two applications are bundled on the module : an Internet browser (Tech Puma.) and MultiMail (Actual Software) a mail client that let you send and retrieve your emails while on the go.

Thinmodem Plus ™

Modem and memory

ThinModem Plus came several month after the ThinModem. It was worth the wait as it offers a 56 kbs connection plus 8 Mb of flash memory. It is really a great deal for modem users who want to have more storage capacity on their Visor. Like ThinModem, power comes directly from the Visor and size is the same allowing the module to be perfectly integrated into the PDA. Thus it can be let plugged to benefit the 8Mb of memory. It comes with a telephone line cord. Some software are bundled on the module : a web browser "Browse It" compatible with the 16 bits colors of Visor PRISM, a mail client from JP Systems and a modem control software.

SpringPort™ modem 56 GlobalACCESS

Modem

This modem is the first Springboard extension from Xircom, a famous mobile extension producer. This modem supports both analog telephone line (at 56 Kbs) and GSM 900, 1800 and 1900 with an optional GSM kit. As it uses a battery carrier with 3 AAA batteries it doesn't fit in the Springboard expansion slot as ThinModem. Two leds on the top gives an indication on the communication status. When plugging it into the Visor a multi mail pro application becomes available as well as a web browser (AvantGo)

The "everything is possible" module

With this module, Innogear planned to offer a V90 modem (56 Kbps), a GSM modem, an Audio recorder with integrated Loudspeaker, a vibrating and a visual alarm. Enough for you ? No, 8 Mb of flash memory was also part of the plan. All on a single module (should I say a Visor swiss knife ?). Unfortunately, Innogear posted information on their Website saying that module is cancelled. What a pitty ! it was the killer module so much awaited by Visor community.

This MP3 player features external buttons and a color application . Listening is possible by using a standard plug for headphones. A Mac and Windows application is proposed to transfer MP3 files from your personal computer to an MMC card. Two colors and two memory sizes (32 and 64 Mb) are available, but you can expand your storage with additional MMC cards sold separately. With 64 Mb of memory, it makes it possible to store approximately an hour of digital music. You can use it while navigating into your agenda or memo applications, even with your Visor off. No batteries are included in the module, increasing the power consumption of the PDA and if size is superior to a standard module it looks good.

Soundsgood is of a size that matches perfectly the Springboard expansion slot of all Visor except new edge slot, thus it can be left inside even when into a carrying case or with the plastic cover. Three tiny hadware buttons, and an earphone plug are situated on the top of the module. Module is powered by an ARM processor and features 64 Mb of (non expandable) memory allowinf 1 Hour of digital music. No batteries are included in the module, increasing the power consumption of the PDA. An included software makes it possible to manage play, forward, backward and other traditional functions with your stylus. Like the previous MiniJam it is possible to use other Palm application and even to shut down the PDA while listening to nice digital music.

Vocal recorder

This compact vocal recorder uses the built-in microphone of Visor PDAs, it offers 16 minutes of vocal digitalrecording on its flash memory. It is activated by its top button. Messages are then accessible via an included software. It differs from the Total Recall by the impossibility of using it out of the Visor.

Vocal recorder

This module allows the storage of vocal notes. It is possible to use it both plugged or unplugged int he Visor Springboard slot. Indeed, it come with with its own microphone, a earphone and hard command buttons. When plugged into the Visor it becomes possible to manage the various recordings, to edit vocal notes (add/suppress part of messages) and to listen first 3 seconds of each recording. Two models are proposed, one allowing 1 hour 30(VN-1850), the other 3 hours (VN-1850E) of recording.
